I'll tell you one thing about the universe, though. The universe is a pretty big place. It's bigger than anything anyone has ever dreamed of before. So if it's just us... seems like an awful waste of space. Right?
from one of my favourite movies, Contact.

if you're a bit of a geek, i reckon you'll enjoy the movie too...
That would make me a geek because this is easily in my top 5!

Of course, my answer is obvious, but I can't explain why without violating forum rules. Even if I were to limit my explanations to logic, that would take much more time and space than is practical for this thread.

EDIT: It would be easier to go the reverse...most people who believe in aliens, do so with the logic that the vastness of the universe requires life on other planets just by citing the odds.
So I visit a remote mountain lake. I see it has fish in it. Am I to automatically assume this is the only mountain lake to have fish in it, and every other remote lake is to have none despite not visiting any other lake?

Or say I'm told that the ocean has fish in it, but I've never seen one. I go out to the ocean with a glass and scoop up water, but I don't catch any fish in my glass. Is my conclusion that because I didn't catch any in such a small sample of water, there isn't any?

The film ended perfect for the, the way things were portrayed was, in my eyes, an elegant way of doing so.

Everlong has a very strong point, I'm skeptical on what is/could be out there but I wouldn't go as far as saying WE are the only intelligent life living.

I believe that what your logic is called is a red herring:
