I thought the browser that's included in Android OS is Chrome itself.

Nah, that's just a customized Webkit stock browser. Has some same features - like V8 Javascript engine that Chrome uses and based off of webkit. Some features of Chrome, but not Chrome, if that makes any sense.

I just wish manufacturers would keep it properly updated on phones. Custom ROMs usually have the latest version, so not a problem, but stock users rarely.

Take this test I did for example:

My Desire isn't on there, but if it was it'd be around the Nexus One mark.

My ROM with the latest V8 engine in:

That's a HTC Desire coming out on top.

Kinda makes Android look bad when stock browsers aren't updated with it properly.

But to stay on topic. I'm sure someone will get Chrome running on Gingerbread.

    Google Chrome for Android (Beta)

Google released yesterday a beta version of Chrome for the Android 4.0 platform, bringing a few interesting features to the table and what we assume will eventually become the browser of choice for Android devices in general (future devices that is, Google likely won't port it back to older versions of Android).

Has anyone tried this mobile browser yet? I just got it on my ICS tablet, and it looks very similar to the PC version (which is great, IMO). Although, it lacks Flash Player support (not a major concern for me, but may be for others).

I've got Gingerbread so no good for me, but I'm happy with what I have Maxthon Mobile Browser.

My phone didn't show in that list I have the HTC Wildfire S so only came with whatever stock browser they put on it. It was Android 2.3 but then was upgraded to 2.3.5 just after I got it.
