    Why Window 7?


    I have been wondering for long why Windows 7 has not been christened Windows 6 because it is version 6.1.7601? I have not been able to get an answer.

    Can someone please help me in finding the answer?

    I think version numbers are related to NT version.
    anyway I just found this wikipedia input:

    Thank you. Explains how the version numbering was done chronologically very well. It also shows that that the Brand Name is delinked with the version number.
