All Hawaii public schools except those on multi-track schedules and some charter schools follow a single school calendar. Schools vary from the official calendar by converting four instructional days into non-student teacher work days for planning and collaboration purposes. In addition, most schools have from 2-4 "waiver days" that are also non-student teacher work days for professional development. The statewide official school calendar and individual school calendars for the 2008-09 school year can be viewed at Calendar 2008-2009.

This information is posted online to help notify the public about emergency school closures. Also monitor the media for school closure announcements.
