    DSL and ADSL are as you say transmitted over normal phone lines, however they are highly dependent on the quality of the actual line. with older lines the drop off can mean that at any distance of more than a mile or so the signal is so degraded to be useless.

    To fix this of course the providers have to do that which they dislike most - spend money

    DNG

    With DSL over pots (plain old tel service) you have to be within 15000' of a telco switch or substn. Usually the telco wire lines dont carry enough signal for it over that distance. So if you're 20 miles from telco equiptment you're hating dial up

    I hate dial-up no matter what. :) Thats why I'm happy, that for now, the internet signal from my neighbor likes me.

    I'm confused I thought the "Ah, the plot thickens" was about DNG wondering when Peaches was going to post ?
