Re-installing an operating system on a laptop using an ext. monitor?

Before you continue reading this please note that I am posing this question in relation to Mac OS X 10.5.8 on a MacBook.

Not sure if it is allowed to ask such questions on here, but I asked on the apple forums and got no reply.

Basically since I just acquired a new Windows 7 machine I would like to reinstall or upgrade the OS on my old Mac, only the problem is the screen went dead a few months ago so now I am running it via an external monitor.

Not sure what the problem is but I can't afford to get it fixed right now. I've had nothing but problems with this computer (MacBook) since I got it- noisy fan, heat from fan turning the screen black at the bottom, general slowness, amongst other things. I am never buying another Mac again and I hate Apple.

So anyway, now that I have a brand new computer to play with I want to sort out my old one, but of course I have no idea if it will be possible to reinstall the OS using an ext monitor. You can still faintly see the content of the desktop on my mac screen if you hold a torch to it, and well I basically had to do that in order to set up the external output to this monitor. So I'm guessing if I reinstall everything then the setting that tells it to display externally will be reset and then I have kind of a problem.

I really want to get this computer sorted out and working again because it's just so slow and the fan, well anything it seems that involves streaming music or video, or I don't know exactly what I've been trying to years to isolate the problem but it keeps coming back... the fan is just so noisy it sounds like a freaking hairdryer! and it's hard to concentrate with it going like that sometimes.. Could be a dodgy motherboard or something, I think in hindsight that I was sold a machine that was faulty at manufacture and rather than giving me a new one 3 years ago when I took it for a faulty ODD they just replaced the parts. I paid 1,250 Euro for this machine and it came down to 1,000 3 weeks after I bought it so you can understand perhaps where I am coming from when I say that I HATE APPLE!

I just wondered if anyone knows how I can do this. I've copied and pasted this text in case the thread gets zapped because it's non windows material.
