server side question

Hi Seven Forums,

Not sure what fourm to post this message in so am trying here.

I maintain ghree web sites, one has to do with outdoor Shuffleboard the site is www.districton.ent The site has been up for several years, the membership of the group like the fact that they can revew tournaments back three or mare years. Is it possible to setup the older files on a DVD so as to remove them from the server it's self and still be accessed? I thought about setting it up as a SQL data base but that does not look feasable at least from the stadpoint of my feeble brain. Does anyone have a suggestion??

Is the site supposed to be Outdoor Shuffleboard, District 1 Shuffleboard ?

It is possible (but not recommended) to have the files (by which I think you mean the archive html pages and images) in a DVD. Access would be very slow.

Putting the images in a SQL database would be a good idea, but that would require some programming.
All I could see in the site was static HTML pages, so there would be quite a lot of changing.

Thank you for your reply. I miss spelled the web site I created, it should be www.districtone.net i Had transposed the last part to ent not net. Don't think I have ever done that before.

Anyway, I have use SQL before on blog pages so that programing could work, I think even for html pages. I use Expression Web 4 to manage the site. My concern is whether the DVD's or CD's could be accessed quik enough. Have not been able to get a clear answer from my hosting network.

If the number of simultaneous hits to the site is not high, then running the site from a CD/DVD should not be a problem.
However, one thing that has to be clarified is whether the hosting service would be comfortable with the site in a CD/DVD, since the CD/DVD would be in their machine.

SQL on the other hand would be a good idea. The cons would be code change and maybe the hosting service may charge extra for the database functionality.

Thank you for your reply, I failed to think about how often the hits came in, I do get lots of hits and now think that accessing a CD or DVD would be a problem, I think I will give that idea up. Thanks again.
