Windows 7: Sabayon Linux

Windows i7 920

Windows 8 Pro x64
Sabayon Linux

I've tried just about every major Linux distro, and Sabayon has been BY FAR the easiest, fastest, and most reliable on my desktop. I spent countless hours trying to get graphics drivers to work with Ubuntu x64 with my Radeon HD 4890... never happened. As soon as I even booted the LiveDVD of Sabayon... all drivers were working 100% immediately.

Its pretty cool being able to create this thread on the same PC at the same time that Sabayon is installing too. I could do that with a lot of other distros, but usually had some driver issues.

Microsoft MVP

Windows 7 Ult. x64

Ultimate Edition is probably the nicest looking distro, but version 3.2 has some very signifcant problems with the NVidia GTX500 series cards - installation just freezes. Seems to be a global phenomenon.

I've always found LinuxMint 9 Gnome LTS to be the quickest and driver support under VMWare has always behaved itself.

Can Also Use Other OBD

While Sabayon is quite nice, it does crash at times on updates. Otherwise, it is just terrific. It has all the Gentoo official repositories and it's own too.

However, if there was something I'd suggest to others for general (and heavy), it would be Pinguy OS (Pinguy OS) It has almost all the pre-configurations in Sabayon and is lighter to use(though not by much).

It's a variant of Ubuntu, so has all the packaging advantages, something which Sabayon doesn't. Mixing entropy and portage in Sabayon generally causes the system to crash after some time; making the choices on packages limited.

You can try PinGuy's 11.04 version till the 12.04 version comes out, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. However, seeing the increment and change of kernels, It's better to wait 2-3 weeks for it rather than upgrading it later on.
