What would you like to see in any OS.

    Hi Everyone,
I was just wanting to know what new features you would like to see in your favourite OS(e.g Mac,Linux,Windows).

    Thanks,
    Alexander

Seamless multiple desktops ie As found in Linux, but 'better'

    Seamless Facial/voice/hand gesture recognition.

An OS with AI that has a 'personality'.

More 'eye candy' and more built in ability to customize virtually everything without mixing window managers, hacked .dlls, 3rd party apps etc

More intelligent use /advantage taken from available hardware.

    Other sci-fi inspired stuff.

Simplicity - so that no time will be wasted.
Human Interaction - so that no time will be wasted.

I was messing around with Kinect on Windows as part of my dissertation. The project was to build a gesture gameplay system for Kinect, but I started playing around with Windows stuff. Would be really fun a proper system where you can just wave your hands around etc to control an OS.

You mean a la Iron Man movie. I think that would require a lot of setup to work correctly.

Cool dissertation. The Kinect is what gave me the idea.

    A LOT of work.

I use the Kinect for head tracking in Forza 4 (which works pretty well) and the odd voice command. The rest of it is just a waste of time atm. Far too cumbersome. Even though it's in it's infancy, the underlying technology is showing a lot of promise and it's conceivable that 'one day' it could be incorporated into an OS.

A Sentient Artificial Intelligence. It should do virtually anything that I tell it to.

Providing it doesn't try to take over the world Skynet-style.

Unlimited customization to your os sort of like linux and more performance and compatibility tweaks so you can run smoothly and run pretty much anything you want and be able to change themes with out having to patch the system and given a tool to do customization of the theme. Also no stupid this driver must be signed to run and forcing me to patch it myself to make the custom driver run had to that to my mouse.
