    Circuit City closing all stores

    Circuit City

Circuit City would like to thank all of the customers who have shopped with us over the past 60 years. Unfortunately, we announced on January 16, 2009, that we are going out of business.
Wow, according to them, they employ 34,000 people... That sucks.

This is old news, but only in lieu of the following - they announced they were closing most of their stores back in September or October....

I knew they were going out of business then - they were not attemtping to consolidate their merchandise, each store was selling what it had....

I bet you could find some good deals; I wish I had some extra disposable income....

lmfao - the one here in town has been closed since the beginning of December.

I was gonna try to score a nice HD TV or a Blu Ray burner - bu when I first found out about it they had 'select' merchandise at 10-20% off- nothing that I wanted - and every thing else was reg price.

After that the semester started to end, and I got too busy to go look. I went back near the end of December and everything was gone.

I'd also be careful because they sold everything to liquidators, and liquidators are notorious for jacking the price up and then putting signs with huge amounts of % off, but since the original price is jacked up, you still end up paying the same, if not more, than what the item costs elsewhere, or at that same store before they went out of business.

And yes, it is no surprise since they were doing so poorly, but they only announced they were shuttering some stores last year. Now that they're closing every single one, and the website no longer works, I think its mostly sad just because of the sheer number of jobs lost.

Welcome to the remnants of the economy. Rumors are abounding in the US that the government might actually take over a good portion of the banking industry....the auto market is slowly dying, and yet not one of these execs has given up their perks.

F'em - I don't care if GM and Ford die - they want to continue to mismanage themselves they deserve to rot.

Indeed, couldn't agree more...but at what cost does this come to the average person? Something must be done, but at the same time it just seems like we're stuck in the status quo.

Here's to hoping the 20th on will bring something new and hopeful to the situation.

Yes indeed, I remember. They said not to purchase gift cards before the holidays started. There were a few more stores but can't remember them.

Buzz out Load (mostly PC (non mac)) podcast for the most part seem glad as CC fired all their good sales persons and hired zombies that were clueless, at half the cost, that knew nothing and was glad to see this. So they say. I don't have to much experience with them so I don't know but I do know a Samsung $1800 TV can be purchased from Amazon for $1149 so why on earth would you purchase from a store if you can get it free, much less and pay no sales tax and buy a (3) year warranty and still have much less?!?!?!?!?

For the jobless though, that does stink. I've been saying for years, made in china, made in china, and I got on everyones nerves (when going into a store), now they get it. Now its too late.

The Canadian arm is called "The Source by Circuit City" and is looking for a buyer so hopefully will remain open.
