Didn't work the first time around.
You have to remember that for every Mac you buy Apple gets $1,000 plus. for every copy of Snow Leopard, $30. Apple would have to increase their marketshare 33-fold just to roll in the same amount of profit.
My real problem with Mac (other than that the os makes absolutely no sense to me)
Is the complete lack of open source materials.
...and when someone does make something apple attacks them in the most vicious way they legally can.
The problem here would be that without having very specific and tightly controlled hardware, the OS wouldn't remain as stable and it would lose some of it's, "it just works" fluff.
Apple doesn't need to make a lot more money. They would rather have their product retain it's appeal.
With respect to costs of "snow-leopard" and the fact that's it's usually like $29.99...keep in mind that
1). Going from leopard to snow-leopard is like going form Win7 to Win7 SP1.
2). This $29.99 OS really only runs on their hardware. And you pay more for the hardware.
