I got an E mail from my phone company about the impending storm.

In the event of extreme weather conditions associated with Hurricane Sandy, impacted areas could experience storm related outages.
I also have a doctors appt that day...I wonder if I'll be going to that?

    whs said:
Why do people always wait until the last minute before they get their gear. Same here in the Black Forest. Last week it was in the 70's and nobody thought about winter tires for their cars. Today we have 2 inches of snow. Now they are lining up in front of the tire shops and buy the tires for twice the price than would have been last week - plus they have to wait forever..

    Why?!?
Because it is Human Nature That's why!
Keeping Pace with Today's Quick Brains

Two weeks from now everyone will be thinking "Thanksgiving Day", and all will be forgotten, except for the people and families that are going to be hit the hardest from this storm.

    Since 5am EDT today (10-27-12) I have:
Stood in line only to have the generator supply run out.

Went to my Brother's to help him get ready, then we went to our Mom's to get her ready.
    She's seven miles from me.

Came home, went to six stores for supplies, went to the bank.

Helped four neighbors to get ready, not only did I set up a rain water collection at our place, but theirs to. For the uninitiated it's for "Black Water".

Made sure we had gas for our vehicles, propane, diesel for us and others.

Been on the phone since this post to find other sources of generators.

'bout an hour ago I thought; "we are as ready as we will ever be".

I've been checking on portable generators, no luck so far. They're on emergency delivery everywhere you check.
Oh!, and by the way verizon thinks out of sight, out of mind also!

It is my sincerest hope that "Sandy" veers out into the Northern Atlantic Ocean where it can do the least harm.

I shall try to keep all updated, but there are no guarantees after Monday Afternoon.

Anak, my brother is in central Pa (Grantham). He has a permanently parked camper 8 miles north of Ocean City, Md. He should be concerned but isn't. He says he has full coverage insurance.

I've lived in Florida for 16 years and people here worry about their places when there is hurricane potential, not just "I've got insurance" (which is outrageously expensive).

Steve, I am sorry. I really did not mean to hone in on you personally. It was just a general observation about bad planning that I observe all the time. People only seem to react once they are caught between a rock and a hard place.

Regarding the storm let's hope that it is not going to be as bad as the worst forecasts predict. Some say it is going to be a storm of the century - same as our snow storm which is the earliest since about 80 years with by now up to 8 inches of snow.

OK. I just checked out the updated storm track forecasts. As the storm gets closer, the tracks are being refined, and they seem to be converging... on my house!

Nice. I turned on the Weather Channel. One of the guys is doing a weather remote from Pt. Pleasant Beach, about 2 miles south of me. Another is in Asbury Park, about 5 miles north. I think it's a bad sign when the severe weather sacrificial lambs are encircling your home.

If I see Jim Cantore chaining himself to a tree in my front yard I'll know it's time to worry...

I just saw on CNN that NYC is suspending subway service. That will really cause a mess.

good luck everyone who is in the area, keep safe report back when you can,
i understand there will be power outages lasting some time so we wont know if you are safe or not. post when you can, if you have mobiles with the sf app then post from there, that may be a possibility depending on whether the phone masts are still standing .
    again keep safe all .

Steve, watch this one - what is it with PA and Halloween, anyway?

    - you're right where the battle will take place the 5 or 6 highs coming from the west meet the really big low (Sandy) somewhere between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. It's the Not OK corral.

Getting heavier rain now 18:00 Sunday, misty / cloudy /spitting all day. We'll get a break for the next two hours.

Monday 14:00 will probably be the worst around here. I used my hose to tie down my grill.

    10/28 11PM Update

Looks like the models have really converged. It's a big storm so will effect a very large area.
