The wind did not seem to make a lot of damage. My wife who is currently with her mother in the outskirts of NY reported that they only lost a few shakes (shingles) from the side of the house. And a lot of smaller branches that fell into the yard.

But for those who live close to any water, it is a different story. The Hudson in Tarrytown and Peekskill went overboard.

    10/30/2012 10:30 All clear

Sandy was quite anti-climatic around here. "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll knock over your recycling bin". I'm thankful for that, other areas weren't as fortunate.

A little news from around Cleveland Ohio. Winds 40 to 45 mph with gust of 60 to 70. It varied from time to time. I don't remember the numbers but many without power and heat. Lots of rain and it is still raining. The wind and rain has got better late this mourning.
During the the high wind all kinds of things flying around banging against the house keeping the cat and me awake. My basement with lots of water but it is resending now. The city storm drains just couldn't keep up with the rain. The furnace still works, thank the Lord. I just sold my car yesterday mourning and got it out of the driveway and this mourning one of my big oak trees left a big branch where/wheir the car was. My house still retains it's new roof. All and all not bad for a record breaking storm. Silly but one of the things I noticed is that the squirrel nest some how are still in the trees.
They are surly one the the worlds great engineers. Many people went to Lake Erie shore line (dumb) and watch the 30 ft. waves coming from a 60 ft. deep lake. Myself looked out the window wondering how those big trees were holding onto the earth and not falling on my house. I no longer have to rake the leaves in my yard is a plus.
I will have to find help putting my patio swing back on the patio. It's quiet heavy.

Layback: all good news... considering. sure is easier selling a car without a tree in it. Methinks the squirrels know something we do not.

I don't want to play "My Hurricane Is Bigger than Your Hurricane" BUT really. They are calling Sandy possibly the worst in history. Sorry folks, I live on the Gulf and we see a lot of them and bad ones. I think all of the fuss in because it is New York. What do you think Phone Man?

I'm in Florida and have been through several Hurricanes in Biloxi, Ms. A big hurricane wherever it is can be disastrous, but in the northeast with the large population and many big cities it is more devastating than for example the recent New Orleans disaster.

On a positive note, my brother in Grantham, Pa (Harrisburg area) didn't have much other than some rain and a little wind. He has a permanently parked camper near Ocean City, Md and they lucked out there too.
