And to make your head explode even more, there's thoughts on the possibility of more than one "Universe". Scientist can only speculate but there seems to be "expansion" in different directions. First thought to be a regression of the The Big Bang may turn out to be no central origin to the expansion.
We (humans) are fortunate to be able to observe large areas of space because our Solar System is near the edge of our Galaxy. It can really make the head hurt trying to comprehend the size of space. We won't know with any real accuracy for billions of years or as they say, until the light gets here. Much of what we see now happened billions of years ago--Before Earth even existed.
