    Contact query

Hiyya folks I have bought a tool form an American company it is based in Ohio, but the contact form for that company doesn't register anyone outside of the US.

Now the tool is a gas powered soldering iron that I have to be quite badly designed and have already burnt myself on trying it out. I fully intended using it in a machine and small appliances but the exhaust gases hole emits a flame about three to four inches long and if one was not absolutely vigilant holding the solder wire or getting near surrounding combustible materials these exhaust gases would create a very high risk of injury or damage to your equipment.

I have Googled and cannot find who or where one goes to to report these things can anyone please help me?

The bottom of their contact form has alternative means of contacting them. I doubt that the telephone numbers would work from your location (inless you wanted to pay for an expensive toll call), but you should be able to contact them by snail mail.

Yeah seeker I have emailed some department level manager will just have to wait and see in the meantime I would advise anyone who is thinking of getting one of these to thoroughly check it out first. I don't want anyone else getting a nasty surprise!

That does look like a bad design, I had one from Weller but there was a fabric type wick in that area that kept the flame to a minimum like a mantle on a coleman lantern.

Mine was an older model of this one, Catalog No. PSI100C Product Detail

If you used the email address at the bottom of my snip, I doubt that you will ever hear anything from them, because that was only for media relations.

Yep Derek my old one is a Snap On one that my son bought me for fathers day a long time ago and it has that catalytic "wick" in it and even the replacement tips to fit it that are not genuine snap on have the "wick" . It's been a superb tool but very expensive.

I have heard back form the Product communications Manager at Bernzomatic and she has said she will pass it on to the product engineer team - I sincerely hope she doe because that thing is an accident waiting to happen IMHO.

I also ran it past the store this morning and they were quite amazed at what this tool does or rather doesn't do - properly - plus another large hardware place where I found the Weller and like yours it has the wick. But it didn't have any spare or different tips and so I didn't buy it as I don't know if they are available in the US.

I also told that store how much of a risk it was but I don't think they really care that much.

In any case I am going to contact our state department re my concerns as out here everyone is very safety conscious these days and as I said I wouldn't like to find out that someone had been hurt by one of these tools through me not saying anything.

It looks like a poor design, and pretty
worthless if you're trying to solder
in a small space. All I can say is good
    luck.

Hiyya Tazman and welcome - yeah mate it is as weak as water and I have got the two I bought refunded - I was more concerned with the one I sent to a friend as a surprise and had to let thast person know before it was received and cause dsome injury or damage to the machines.

I've still got my Snap On iron which is a real classy piece of gear.

FWIW I am going to contact our state government and find out what can be done about it - from that perspective it may provoke a warning message being put out.
Can only hope so cos the store I got it from was really quite taken aback but the other - a very large national company the staff I told there didn't seem too worried.
