When growing up I saw just about everything he ever starred in first on black and white tv in the early 60s! He will be one of the greats missed no less!

I suspect several cable channels will be running at least some of the movies as well as tv series he was in. AMC runs a good number of the old westerns including shows like The Rifleman as well as the old John Wayne and others where you will likely some he was in.

I'm sure if I go to the ISP's pages here(XFinity) I can view some of the listings that will be coming up.

Movie is good but his performance was amazing. Especially for 1953.
    Right on.

From Here To Eternity is probably my favorite film of all time--Ernie as "Fatso" Judson, terrorizing both Monty Clift and Frank Sinatra. Oscar-winning performance by Frank when his singing career was in the toilet.

That last link shows he was still going strong right up until the end! You couldn't ask for a better ending of his story doing what he wanted to be doing.

Totally agree about From Here to Eternity! I just rewatched it a couple of months ago, and Ernie as Fatso Judson still scared the hell outta me!!!!

That was another one he costarred in for sure. He was in a good number of films over the years and was just a few times lately even at his advanced age showing he liked to keep active in some way.

Maybe the yournger crowd on this forum might know him better as the voice of Mermaid Man on Spongebob Squarepants.

To me, he will always be remembered as Cmdr McHale from the McHale's Navy TV show from the 60's.

The man had an acting career that spanned 61 years, from 1951 thru 2012.
Honestly since i'm 18 about to be 19,that spongebob reference is the only one that gave me a clue to who he is loool use to watch that when i was like 7
