I'm still tinkering with this. The cost of the machine is not really a factor, but the cost of the peanuts is. Here is the cheapest that I have found so far:
Dry Roasted Peanuts (Salted) — Peanuts — Nuts — Nuts.com
In addition to the cost of the nuts, there is also $24 shipping for 30lbs tacked on. If anyone knows of a better deal, I'm all ears.
No way to know at this point, but if the feedback remarks are valid, it would appear that the photo must be accurate. I've always been good about getting the cart before the horse, and remain so now. I only now thought about storage considerations. It's too late to get an answer from the supplier about how the nuts are packaged when shipped, but I will ask Monday. If as I fear, they just come in a big paper or cloth bag, I doubt that they should remain in it, and that raises the question of what to use? I thought about buying a 5 gal plastic bucket and lid from The Home Depot or Lowes, but that seems a bit of an overkill, since I don't believe that they will require that much space. Where to locate them is also something I'm unsure of?
I know that mice loves peanut butter, so I would imagine that the same would be true for peanuts. I've never seen a mouse since I've lived in this complex, but I remember once when mentioning strange noises coming from the attic, the apt. manager blamed mice (I think that it might be ghosts). In any case, I see no point in placing temptation in their way, as I don't want to attract the mice or peanut loving spooks. Would they be okay at room temperature, or do they need a special environment?
A lot of soaking.
