Good (short) Sound Files
OK, we've done the "youtube dump", how about some short ".wav" files for use as alternates to the default Windows sound files (new mail, shutdown, etc)?
(And.... what's a good way to post them here?)

I like these - comforting...
When in 'write ur post' mode:
Click "Manage Attachments", in the 'Attach files' box.
On that page, you'll see 'file extensions' that are allowed to be uploaded.
Just rename the .wav, .flick, .porn, or whatever, to something permitted by the "Upload-police"... (I'm using .zip here.)
Click "Browse", select upload file. Then again if nec.
Click "Upload", after all files have been browsed/selected.
Click 'Close window', then 'Preview" ur msge to see that they're there.
COMPLETE_WAV.zip --> STARTUP.WAV or whatever
GOODBYE_WAV.zip ---> GOODBYE.WAV
(And.... Just rename them, identify_ably...) A "piece of pie"...
.
Just two points to make ...
If you are going to post sound files here please ensure that you own the rights to distribute them.
Also if the files are large (a side effect of the WAV format ), please post links only to an external storage site, to reduce bandwidth overhead to the site
Excellent points, Nigel...
My post was to describe the 'mechanics' of the thing,
and assuming that if I DLd for free, etc:
2001: A Space Odyssey Internet Resource Archive: Sounds
Should I/you Delete the pseudo_zips ?
Thank you.
All -
Since it isn't clear that this is a good idea - may put too much of a load on the servers, etc., I've asked John if this is OK to do.
Let's hold off until I get an official reply, OK?
The easiest way to do this IMO, is to upload your files to your skydrive account, and link to them there, that way there is zero drain on SF servers..
skydrive is space on the MSN network where you can store things

It sounds like a good idea to just provide the link so they can be d/loaded, whether that's Windows Live Skydrive or some other site.
