"Whaddya mean, 'Out'? It hasn't even hit the damn ground yet!"
"That was one helluva 'Aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrr baaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll"!
"Ladies and gentlemen, the match will resume again in 1 hours time - provided the ball boy makes it back up the stairs that quickly."
"Aaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...." "Well, I didn't think he'd literally chase the ball over the edge...."
"Talk about a breakpoint...."
"Next up: Roger Federer hits a tennis ball a mile away." "Oh yeah, that's nothing - John McEnroe throws his racket the same distance!"
"Where Serena goes to calm down after contemplating bodily violating a line judge"
"Look, ma, I told you they played tennis in heaven!!!!"
Terminal velocity of a tennis ball is about 21.5 m/s or about 77.4 km/h. Fastest service record: Andy Roddick holds the fastest serve record at 155 mph (249.4 km/h)
So the free fall ball wouldn't be such a problem.
Oh yeah, it could hurt you at that speed too (but no crater). I was curious how fast it was compared to a pro serve, and I was astonised by the difference.
You know that thing about pennies off the top of the Empire State building and craters? Yeah, that doesn't work either.
