to the op, you would do well to have a google plus account there are loads of photography circles you can add to your account, you can share all your photos and get feedback from fellow photographers.

I have neither a twitter nor a facebook account. Security issues...
As for photography, I've wanted to for years to buy a computerized telescope and take photos of galaxies, globular clusters, nebula, etc.
I got the first model DSLR Nikon made. D70. Somewhere on the web they have a photography forum. I don't get to use it much. As soon as you walk around with a camera slung around your neck people come out of their houses. They think you're an insurance investigator. "Hey! What you takin' pitcha's of?"
It's a nice camera. But a lot of weight these days for only 6.1 MP. Also the feed to the computer is only USB 2.0. Not a very fast copy. It did produce nice pics even in jpg mode though.
Better to get something that fits in the palm of your hand. That way you can take candid shots sitting down. If your arm is resting on your leg nobody will notice. Just glance down to see what's in the screen. As soon as you put the thing up to your eye everyone's radar goes off. Forget it, unless you like to shoot weddings or nature shots in the woods.
HiJimJ.... If you are especially good from now until Christmas .. maybe Santa will break down and buy you the telescope.
If not, then try kicking him in his shin.
That's what my 5 year old brother told me one year, when I ask him what he wanted from Santa ,
he said "Cowboy Boots ", I ask him what happens if he doesn't, he replied" I'll kick him in his shin "
I saved my hard earned money from working weekends at a teen hangout , plus extra hours there, Dad couldn't afford the boots at the time, I bought the boots for him.
Don't use facebook, last time I used a social website was when myspace was popular but now a days I just don't see the need for it and have deleted myspace about a year or so ago since I never use it and most ppl that used it moved on to facebook. I just rather not get involved with other ppl with my personal life. Well at least that's how I feel now that i'm older.
I do got a twitter though just to follow some peeps and some hardware vendors like AMD and software vendors like steam and so on, on my twitter. Never posted anything personal to be able to identify me on it though. Have a dummy fake facebook profile to take a look at it though, nice photos. Have it for situations like this were you need a facebook, just don't use it and post nothing on it.
I don't understand why ppl are so scared about their "personal info" on Facebook. I have an FB account since around 4 years. I have met so many old friends and distan relatives on FB. Never had any so-called issue with my security. Because the hacker is not interested in looking after your personal information. And that theif in your area is not going to plot a robbery by looking at the photos you post on FB or by reading your wall post. I mean, c'mon!
