Supposedly research has shown that really cold temps do not kill the bugs - or larvaes. But maybe the Minnesota mosquitos are different.
I was just trying to be funny. I realize it doesn't kill the larvaes off, as the mosquitos always come back the following summer. But interestingly enough, the bugs are always worse in the years we have mild winters, like last year so cold weather does have some effect.

This is true! In the spring, if we get a day where the temps reach 60+F, they can come out even if there is still some snow on the ground.

-1F here this morning, but the sun isn't up yet and it will probably drop a couple of degrees more. Cold weather is officially here.

19F this morning with snow in the forecast. What a change from yesterday.
That should be somewhere around -8c . lol its the temperature of the freezer in my refrigerator .
Well, considering it can be -30c here in December, I will take it.
Is it hilly region or high altitude . Because anything around or above -30c is Siberian type climate .

It is mainly forest land around my place and although I live on a hill, it isn't particularly hilly in the area. But we are located in the north central part of the US and subject to what is referred to as the "Siberian Express" which is when the jet stream dips down into the central part of the country and lets all the cold air from northern Canada into the area. The coldest I remember is about -50F, but further it got enough colder. A person can actually throw a hot cup of coffee into the air and it will freeze before it hits the ground. Or you can use a banana to pound a spike into a board. Fortunately it isn't always this cold and has actually been fairly mild the last couple of years.

I doubt my survival in those conditions.
It takes a bit of getting use to, but the body does adapt.

All I remember of Minnesota is bugs. In the 60s I wanted to canoe in the northern lake district but the bugs (lot of black flies) chased us away. We then went to lake Michigan.

For business I went a few times to Rochester. That was pretty nice though.

It depends on the time of the year you come up here. Summer is the worst for bugs, which is why I go up to the boundary waters in the fall. Southeastern Minnesota, around the Rochester area, has some great scenery as well. Especially if you go east to the Mississippi River Valley.
