Actually, its not that at all - there are many forums that have a similar repping/badging system, but they aren't as popular as SF.

The badges and such are just bling. I doubt many help here for rep. Sure it's nice, but it's actually just a visual representation that someone thought you did a good job. It's the people that make this forum. It's also just the right mix of serious help, and good fun and humor (I help with the latter ). Well moderated, well designed, well populated with knowledgeable people (and aliens), and well behaved. I have said it before, a rare occurrence, and very admirable. A Guy
