34GB seems more like it, a fresh clean install on my machine with all updates users and basic programs uses 33.3 GB and backs up to produce a system image around 15 GB

We do it right here.

When I checked the files, I only had system restore points from the installation of programs after win 7 install. The 25-30 Gb were after install, not leftovers. I have a fair number of programs installed for work and play and they're not light ones either (ie: photoshop, web designers, etc).

I'm not trying to be rude, but "i told you so" is never cool no matter how you say it.

From what I see on the forums, you're a helpful guy. Now admittedly, I'm new here but that comment seems "out of character".....have I done something to offend you?

On a more positive note: once the system was cleaned down, I was able to make a system image no problems on the 80 Gb backup drive I have installed in the case expressly for that purpose.

Now it just sits there nice and quiet, ready for the next "electro-apocolypse"......:)

Glad to hear you got it all sorted mate, those image backups are so handy when it all goes tits up, you would be amazed how many people dont do it

Think you may have taken gregs comment slightly the wrong way he is a definate pusher of the clean install as we all are but i dont think thats an i told you so more a recommendation, gregs a top bloke and you can see from his post count he has helped thousands of people of his own good will in his spare time, just say thanks to everyone that helps and they will keep helping :)

Not to belabor a point, but; I simply posted and wasn't looking for advice. Hence the statement more of a "blog" but feel free to comment statement. Not a solicitation for advice, but a friendly invitation to talk.

You returned on the first post with you should have done a clean install and then this took off an running.

I didn't "ask for advice and then quibble about it". You offered it and I thanked you for it, then went my own way.

Then came a couple other posts pointing out what I was doing wrong when, in fact, i was doing what was required to get my system working. IE: updating drivers. I had lost functions of devices because windows had installed a more generic version. The usb key board is one example; no media center, no shortcut buttons, no mouse auto scroll, etc.

If you don't like that I didn't follow your route then so be it, the world is full of different ways to do things. Some right, some wrong and some just different.

If that doesn't sit well with you then maybe we should just agree to disagree, digitally shake hands, part ways here and call it a wash rather than get into some kind of internet argument. I have no desire for that sort of thing.

Or maybe we just got off on the wrong foot. It just life and it happens sometimes.

Either way, as far as I'm concerned; No harm, no foul.
