You gotta think why there are so many hardware and software options available for XP. Thats because of its long lifespan and it became the defacto OS that every manufacturer and publisher geared up for. If you start diluting the OS market with more frequent OS updates, there wont be such the varied quantity that XP enjoys. For that reason I hope Win7 has an equally long lifespan.
Very nice fellas keep the ideals and awesome comments comin :) Don't forget to vote too
I see a lot of people are leaning to Windows 8. I'm just glad they are finally seeing where they went wrong by just upgrading old stuff and patching old bugs that just create new ones. Hopefully rewriting the OS from scratch and giving it a new innovative look. We've needed this for so long, glad to see some actual evidence that they are trying to make the consumers happy!
MS has already stated that they cannot allow an OS to go on like xp did, i expect we will see updates every 2-3 years with support lasting about 5-7 years for each OS. ideally this could make the price of upgrading windows lower but i wouldnt expect prices as low as what apple offers, because microsoft can't make up the cost in hardware sales the way they can.
Well I haven't voted as I haven't even thought beyond Windows 7
I've only had Vista just over a year and will be installing Windows 7 in a dual boot with it on the 22nd so as yet have quite enough to get my head round before the next OS comes out
I haven't played with Windows 7 as much as all you lot in here so still have lots to learn about it.
I just used the first public beta, I think it was 7000, and only for a very short time before going back to Vista so I have no experience of the final version and I'm really looking forward to getting my copy. I've just upgraded my version of Acronis and started a new disk image backup alongside my file backups.
