Does your blank disc media smell like celery too?

I bought a pack of blank Philips DVD+R discs last week, opened them to put them on a spindle and they reek of cooked celery. I bought a pack of RiData blank mini DVD-R discs and opened them, and they also smell like celery. It's a strong smell. I had the same thing with a lot of Philips DVD=R discs I bought in 2011- that same strong smell of celery.

What causes this? Is there a chemical used in their manufacture that has this smell? I never had an odor with blank CDs but since I started getting blank DVds I've noticed strong odors that remind me of cooking celery- and the bigger the pack, the worse the odor.

The blank DVD media I used to get in the big cake boxes always had a light syrup-ey odor when I opened them. It was in the discs, not the packaging.......no telling what it is!

Probably just harmful chemicals, nothing to worry about.

I've broken a couple of them when I'm done using them & some of them really have noxious fumes, to the point of making my eyes water....

I bought a 25 pk cake box each of CDs and DVDs last month. I had already opened the CDs so when I gave them a sniff test just now, I could barely detect a chemical odor which wasn't celery. I opened up the DVDs (they were still sealed) and the odor was somewhat stronger but it still wan't celery. If it had been, they would have gone back since the odor (and taste) of raw celery makes me sick (it amazes me that people not only eat that nasty weed but they actually like it!). The odor was less than pleasant but not particularly objectionable. Besides, I had to stick my snoot almost on the disks to be able to smell them so no worries for me since I'm not in the habit of huffing them.

I got a pack of HP lightscribe discs in the mail today. Opening them I could smell the celery odor, not as strong as my last 2 packs but still present.
