Windows 7: Ubuntu.. Anyone?

I run Ubuntu 9.04 when not gaming. DirectX is still the supreme - OpenGL can't satisfy today's games/gamers (including me), and I believe it still won't for quite a while.
I don't think I'll dump MS completely until I can play my games and get all my drivers working in Linux.
I use Linux to regain my wonderful sanity back from the paranoia caused by a commercial environment. I don't really dislike Windows, though I bear grave enmity towards Microsoft as a company for commercially monopolizing the IT market.
The future is OSS!!!

As soon as a linux distro runs every piece of software I use on my laptop, and correctly identifies and operates each and every component of my laptop, then ONLY then will I consider putting it on my laptop for more than a simple test.

And before you ask, Yes, Vista and Seven both meet the above requirements.

Well, of course Vista and 7 work with the hardware since just about every piece of hardware is made for Windows and drivers are made available to Microsoft by the vendors to include in Windows.

I have some custom built machines in my house with certain hand selected hardware and they work right out of the box with the Linux distros which I typically use. I did have to switch a few pieces of software since most commercial apps for Windows are not available for Linux...but I've also got absolutely no need for piracy and a plethora of great free choices which are usually very small downloads and perform adequately for my needs.

To answer another part of the question: Is Ubuntu snappier that windows 7, yes. And why is that. well let see, oh yeah, it a hell of a lot smaller in size. The foot print of Ubuntu is give or take seven hundred megs, and windows 7 is oh say about 10 gigs. During normal operations Ubuntu (64) uses what, around 500 Mb of memory compared to windows 7(64) 1.2 Gig of memory. Hmmmmmmmmm, not sure but that could be a good explanation.

I am having both the version Ubuntu 32/64 bit.... in this Ubuntu x64 is superior in video playback and sound reproduction than ubuntu x86. even though no can compare the video quality of HD/Bluray in Windows7 with Ubuntu. You can experience a lot of frame drops and pixelation in video playback on Ubuntu.

The multichannel output is still messy in Linux based products.

hail windows

Snappier? Yes. It's smaller in size, less resource-hungry (probably even less than Win7) and isn't full of legacy code from several legacies ago.
