Student expelled for helping find security flaws at university

A student at a Montreal university has been expelled and had his grades zeroed after he discovered and reported a flaw in the software that is responsible for holding students' personal information.

That's the thanks you get. I can sympathize. Two semesters ago, one of the PC's I was on in class was acting funny. I ran a scan with a portable AV on my FD & found it had the Alureon virus on it. I told the teacher, who promptly called IT & put me on the phone. After talking to them, giving them the PC number & describing the virus & what it does, someone else came on the line & asked me: "How do you know so much about this virus?" along with a few of other questions that ended with "Did you by any chance put this on the PC?"

Like I said....that's gratitude for you.....

Yes Borg I can sympathise I put speckie on a health dept machine because one of the programs we use does not have a spell check and it worked beautifully. That was until some ratbag tech found it and now the site has been blocked.

Seeing the number of reports that go via that program and the dreadful spelling there is as vaguely computer people have to use it I would have thought they would have appreciated it - WRONG!!

Just like the security we have on the machines always getting pop ups to say it is out of date - mind you we are still using XP so you might get some idea of what we are up against.
