New Zealand only gets Snow in the South island and in some of the higher mountains in the north. That starts about May.

Freak snow storm hits New Zealand

Quote:
A freak snow storm has left hundreds of people stranded and unable to return to their homes in New Zealand's central North Island.
A state of emergency was declared after heavy snow trapped around 700 people in their vehicles on two of the country's major roads.
The bad weather, which is highly irregular at this time of year, has forced many to take refuge in nearby community centres.

I always fancied New Zealand. In my youth I visited every country in Europe (except Albania who wouldn't let me in) plus most of North Africa.
There is beauty in every country and great people ( get down Dinesh)
However, I tried living in Germany for two years and found I got homesick after a while. I had friends and a German girfriend etc but my German was superficial and my girlfriend and other friends all spoke much better English.
However, though there english was excellent, I still found that more complex ideas and concepts couldn't be discussed very well because the vocabulary of emotions and philosophies are not taught at school.
So I came back. I sort of regret it now cos if I had stayed my German would have improved and I'd have started thinking in German etc.
Oh well. Beautiful country and people nonetheless.
I imagine I wouldn't have that problem in New Zealand and it looks very beautiful.

Cheers, John

PS I'm also drawn to Labrador for some reason

+1
I have now lived over 20 years abroad, last 10+ years here in Germany. Even my German is quite good, I'd like to say near perfect, I still sometimes miss the opportunity to communicate with my native Finnish. Some things are just too difficult to express using a foreign language. My German wife has a wonderful ability to understand exactly what I mean, to complete my thoughts when I'm missing a word or two, thus making my life a lot easier. But still when this happens, when she have to help me to complete my sentence, I feel bad not being able to say it myself.
