I know you guys probably think this is a dumb question and will wonder why i got the big purple one, but what exactly is the WEI for?
I've never seen any software advertised with minimum/recommended WEI score required.......??????
TBH, i don't think my experience with W7 could be any better, it's lightning all round and a lean and keen as the day i installed yet i have a WEI of just 5.7

I don't think it's a dumb question. I don't know the answer either. My laptop is very fast and now only has a score of 2.0.

Same with my brother, his old Dell Inspiron (previously XP) had W7 on it with a bad WEI but it ran beautifully.
I'm going to have a look at what MS say about the rating.

All i can say is, don't use the WEI as a rating system between PC's, it's highly inaccurate =.='

I didn't take any notice of it Vista, W7 is no different.

Here looks an interesting article, it's too late here to read and digest now i'll have a look tomorrow

Engineering Windows 7 : Engineering the Windows 7 ?Windows Experience Index?

    Microsoft said:
Like any index or benchmark, it is best used as a relative measure and should not be used to compare one measure to another. Unlike many other measures, the WEI merely measures the relative capability of components. The WEI only runs for a short time and does not measure the interactions of components under a software load, but rather characteristics or your hardware. As such it does not (nor cannot) measure how a system will perform under the your own usage scenarios. Thus the WEI does not measure performance of a system, but merely the relative hardware capabilities when running Windows 7.

My Google search term was "windows.7,WEI.score" & Seven forums came up first in the listing, even before the MSDN article (& naturally windows7forums)......impressive

No, the polar opposite in fact. I'm just emotionally drained from it all.
