    If they run, they're VC.

    If they don't run, they're well-trained VC.

didn't know if you were aware of a marines view of the navy though
yeah...I was hoping not to go into "that" area
Well isnt that like walking into a biker bar and yell "Honda Rulez" and hope you walk out on your own?
    Yeah Yeah...I know

The only military that runs in my family would be Colonel Sanders...

He was a mighty fine one too

    Hi all
When I was a young kid and got taken to Church on Sundays I remember a very well known hymn - the English translation is approximately as follows

.....Empires rise and sink like billows -- vanish and are seen no more.......

This is also true of corporations.

MS is fine now - but in 100 years or whatever (maybe even in 20) other developments will certainly arrive which will totally "obsolete" todays products.

Who knows what tomorrows "Garage tinkerers" will come up with -- "Texting" was initially added to mobile phones as a way of using up some spare bandwidth - nobody at the time foresaw that "texting" would make nearly as much money as the main "phone" type of application.

And the Hymn was correct with empires -- Ancient Greek, Roman, Nazi, British Empire - all now history -- some did give things back to the world others not.
    Cheers

Ozymandias - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    OZYMANDIAS
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.[1]

From just an Operating system point of view I believe that Microsoft will dominate for many more years, this is because many people at home and at work are familiar with the operating systems and how they work and the software that runs on them. XP is still the biggest compertition for Win7 and probably for will still be for the 128bit Win8.

    LINUX-
At this point many large companies are looking at cutting costs, many are switching servers and other systems to be run by Linux, even Londons stock exchange is swapping to Linux. Cheaper, faster and less likely to crash-costing billions in lost trading. Linux is in everything, from Sky boxes to traffic lights, it even runs on my PS3. With Ubuntu 9.10: Karmic Koala and the rise in use of netbooks (here in the UK anyway,) Linux is gaining popularity, it's easier than ever to use, it runs most windows software, it can be run from live CDs to test the OS or to help recover un bootable windows PCs. It can be installed within Windows and does not have to be dual booted (WUBI.) The biggest attraction is it's FREE.

    Apple-
In my opinion it's all style and no substance, over priced hardware etc etc, if they allow their OS to run on any PC then it would be serious competition. The thing with Apple is it is a brand the younger generation are familier with, iPod, iPhone etc. They are not the best MP3 players or the best phones but everyone wants one. They then move to a laptop or Apple computer. Apple is gaining momentum, talk of an Apple games console and the up and coming tablet.

Who knows, maybe Apple and Microsoft should team up and allow open source!
