Against my better judgement, I have to ask something about this thread.

The thread title is "What are you listening to?"

Nearly all posts are to a linked video of some type.

What can I infer from that?

Few people listen to digital files directly from their PCs (mp3, FLAC, AAC, whatever)?

Few people listening to CDs from PC DVD drive or ordinary home stereo, let alone FM radio?

Nearly all music consumption by participants in this thread is to Youtube or to streaming content of some type?

    Or???

I'm emphatically NOT referring to what is listened to, but rather to the method.

And how representative is that of PC owners in general?

I'm not a big music consumer myself but I think a lot of user do listen to music from their PCs. I have friends who use YouTube to find music videos to listen to too and the bonus at times is seeing a performance and/or getting lyrics.

For me, most of my listening is done from digital files I possess. If I haven't bought them from Amazon or iTunes, then they are CDs that I have ripped myself. The exception to that is at the workplace, I have a couple of well-curated Pandora Internet Radio - Listen to Free Music You'll Love channels that I stream when I am there....saves the hassle of going over to select another album every little while.

I listen from the PC when I am not looking for absolute fidelity, but background sounds....if I am truly listening, then I bring out the headphones and one of my six digital audio players (four various iPods, two Sansas) and even a couple of my phones have decent sound quality, although I typically don't use them for such things (never use my tablets for it either).

If my memory serves, the original beginning of this thread suggested YT links as a way of people sharing what they were listening to, content-wise. From what I have experienced, the sound quality fro YouTube videos is generally not that good.

    As for me right now.....

I usually post up links to stuff that I've got at home already..
I've masses of CD's and DVD's etc.. so have my kids
altogether we've hundreds and hundreds between us..

some of the YouTube vids have better sound quality than my own ripped versions
so it's cool when you find one of those, I guess..

bit annoying when you can't find the track you're listening to at home, on YouTube..
there used to be a dynamite version of Dylan's "Seven Days" on YouTube at one time
    - then it vanished without trace..

    - it's just about what you're listening to, from any source..

My home setup plays everything: cassette tapes, LPs, Cd's, MP3s, radio, and streaming internet. My truck does radio, Mp3, and streaming. At work it's Mp3 on a boombox. And if I'm working at the PC it's MP3 on Winamp, streaming, What-Are-You-Listening-To, or Youtube.

You can infer that Youtube videos are a media type that can be posted here that contain music
