    Today my computer got infected, when I was searching for some clues over internet to post in this thread : BSOD every time connect USB storage device to Windows 7 PC

    I was in search of the source of Sahara.sys and Salvador.sys .... computer stopped responding, MSC alerted for infection within 30 seconds. Scanning now ... infection caught.

    Second time in my life. Earlier I was caught by a spyware, years ago.

    Are your Java, Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader installations up to date?

    Java = 7u21
    Flash = 11.7.700.203
    Reader = 11.0.03

    If they are, I bet you've got a DPF or something leftover from an older version of Java - it doesn't update very nicely at all and leaves things all over your system which can still be exploited.

    Today has not been a good day.

    Up at 5am with plans to visit local reserve to photograph insects.
    Sun did not appear until after 12 Noon
    At approx 1pm tore trousers whilst scrambling over gate.
    Had to visit closest superstore in search of replacement trousers
    Realised on way back, when almost home - had left Bank card in Store
    Returned to store to retrieve card .

    On a brighter note, managed to retrieve card, and...

    ... the pub has not run out of beer - Yet
    That's really bad Nigel. It's good that you found the card.
    Now await for something good in your life.
    Dinesh, you read Nigel's post wrong. See the last sentence; as they say, All's well that ends well! The pub had beer, everything before that is meaningless :).

    Julian, I've been visiting this particular reserve area for more than forty years, long before the reserve was dedicated as such. They now have gates to keep out the public and protect from themselves, (Health & Safety ), I was just getting to an area I've visited for a long time.

    As for the camera, that was on a strap around my neck, plus I had about forty kilos of backpack, and a "macro" tripod set-up - The average Paparazzi will have a single camera and flash - wimps the lot of em

    What did you get infected by? Just out of curiosity.
    It was a VLC player plugin, as MSE and MBAM both detected. It was first caught by MSE, then I aborted it and scanned with MBAM, got the same thing.

    I had, with my earlier windows install. A few months ago I changed the motherboard, so did a clean install. After that I never installed Java.

    Strange Unless you're browser is outdated then it sounds like you were hit by an unpatched exploit.

    The browser is up to date. But what is an unpatched exploit? I think better I have saved the MBAM log
