Forgetting the distance from here Germany to Southern Finland where they live, this is the main reason I could never visit my nephew and his girlfriend:

Kari, would you happen to know if that's a ball python (Python regius)? From what I remember there are only 5 snakes native to Finland and I don't think any of the native snakes are yellow. Just curious.

I can ask. I think you are right, I know that their snakes are not native as only some vipers and colubridae can be found native in Finland.

OK, now I know. Although they have a python regius, too, this fellow is a corn snake (pantherophis guttatus).

Today my great love Jen (named after Jen Barber in The IT Crowd), my Nokia N900 phone informed me it wants she wants to retire. As a typical female she gave me no options, nothing to negotiate. She simply gave me a series of beeps, then disconnected herself from all networks, mobile and WiFi alike.

My wife, family, friends and co-workers have never understood why I have been so attached to my Jen. She runs Maemo 5 OS, a modified mobile version of Debian Linux. Not manufactured and supported anymore, all apps and extras come from a small group of enthusiasts at the maemo.org.

For me Jen has been the best phone ever. I like the keyboard, never been a friend of touchscreen typing. I like her versatility and flexibility, I like her features. And, of course, her curves :).

The last screenshot of her. No signal:

Now to garage to find her original box, I will bury her on same clothes she had on her when she came to us back in 2009.

Angie just noticed I am browsing Amazon and eBay, searching an N900 in good condition. Her comment: "Du bist ein Idiot!". In her opinion I should get a modern phone, not a historic relic. But, what do the women know about man's love for his gadgets?

    An angry and sad Kari

There are US versions of the N900 on Amazon USA listed as new, so maybe you'll get lucky and find one closer to home.

That's sad Kari. Is there no repair center nearby to fix this?
Perhaps, its time to move to Android.

Noobvious, thanks for the tip! And Dinesh: Repair is out of the question. Jen is really terminal, no operation could save her. This last one is only the last in a long line of difficulties.

Decision is made, I will get a "new" N900 or a Windows phone. What I like in N900 is that if I need something not available in repository ("app store"), I can write it myself, launch the normal Debian terminal, compile it and start using. On the other hand, as I have moved to Windows 8 & 8.1, now it could be the right moment to move to Windows phone as I am quite interested in learning how PC and phone could work together.
