Well Phooey!!! ...editing error... I'll do it in sentence structure instead.
Perform the following operations four times.
Fill the seven liter/gallon container from the tap. Fill the five liter/gallon from the seven liter/gallon container. Pour the remaining contents of the seven liter/gallon container into the nine liter/gallon container. Empty the five liter/gallon container.
math:
7 - 5 = 2
four times ---> 4 * 2 = 8
Here's the next one:
See the image below. It has 5 times number 20, 3 times number 15, 3 times number 10 and 6 times number 5. Now change the order of these numbers so that all 4 lines (horizontal, vertical, both diagonals) gives a sum of 55.
vertical,top to bottom: 15,10,5,20,5
horizontal, left to right:20,20,5,5,5
diagonal, top left to bottom right:20,15,5,10,5
diagonal , bottom left to top right:20,10,5,15,5
Phooey again! ...correct answer posted while I was figuringout how to type solution...
Trying to find a puzzle Tom can't solve in two minutes I came up with this:
We have 20 matchsticks forming a 4 matchsticks by 5 matchsticks square something like this:
(Sorry, I am not a good photographer.)
Move 4 matchsticks to keep the square form so that each row and column has 5 matchsticks. A hint: try an unorthodox solution!
