Yes John your prose is indeed so true and is much as I can say.

But in this hour of sadness let not us forget those who are still with us because I think we should make our feelings known to those we like and admire while we are still able.

I think Mike would agree with me if he still could and I think that we should in some way feel happy for him in that he no longer suffers and is now at peace wherever that may be.

At least he would have known that we thought so much of him while he was still able - sadly I see so often those that don't let others know their feelings until it is too late, and that is the saddest fact of all.

fortunately mike was able to see and post in the get well soon mike thread so in this instance he was able to see the well wishes and had a little insight that he was well liked and respected.
i remember he once got annoyed with me when i cracked a joke about choppers.

he had been saying "nice chopper " about a pic of a motorbike someone had posted. i posted the urban dictionary what we in the uk call a chopper.
as a result several of us would drop the word chopper into our posts when we could.
it was all a bit of fun and he soon came round.
the nice thing about mike was he didnt hold grudges and that showed in his personality.

i was going to say in my previous post here (the picture of the flowers) was a horseshoe and not a toilet seat , then i thought it wasnt the right place to joke.
but on reflection mike liked a laugh as much as all of us and certainly joined in with the banter

one of the things i thought when i read the news of his passing was who is going to look after topper.
im sure he would have been having a banter with us about that if he knew he was going.
    so ...

Yep BB I knew him as a really nice person and I knew he liked my ex bike.

As for Topper he went with him he wouldn't have been happy otherwise:)

This has been a hard one.

I have never wanted to avoid the subject of death when the dying bring it up, as I felt Mike had done when he told us he had no options but to die. It is the most sobering experience one can have with a friend. You want to be there for him, calm and stable to lean on. I've also learned it's not good to avoid the subject of death especially if they want to talk about it as Mike did in his last posts.

An example of how death is denied is when the dying discuss it's impending approach and others continue to hope they get well. I understand it but it seems a bit of denial. For that reason I went looking for horse-themed elegies and was lucky enough to find one which carried the theme of Topper running free in a "Return to Innocence" which also brushed on dying. Then I found the Enya video customized with winged horses and suddenly Topper was transporting Mike to heaven. On the wings of angels. Shatteringly beautiful.

I worried this was embracing death too much so asked my closest Forums' friend who thought it might be so. But I called my Uncle Paul into the room who is a Catholic Priest who has tended to the dying all of his life and views it naturally. I showed him the thread and then played him the two videos. He said he thought it was exquisite embrace of the transition and not rushing Mike to the grave at all. I decided to leave it.

Later that night I visited the thread to read and watch the videos again in sequence, tears streaming down my face. As I paged to the bottom to contemplate the Edit button I saw that Mike was in the thread.

Yes everyone very sad time for all and I think a timely reminder of how very short our stay here in this life is and to make every moment count.

I would like to say that my 66 times around the sun has been very short in hindsight and I haven't always made the best of choices so to the younger members make it count.

To us older phogies a timely reminder too to keep an eye on your won well being.

To everyone in SF I have to say I have nejoyed evry moment of it and have nmet some really pleasant people inclding Mike and a heart felt thank you to you all!!

I couldn't have said it better John! I learned ( the hard way ) never to take each day for granted ...

    RIP Mike!
