    Any audiophile CD/Album collectors here?

I’m a huge music lover who also loves collecting special or hard to find/limited editions of albums and Cd’s, especially the audiophile editions.

That said, these arrived today – Earth, Wind & Fire’s Last Days and Time, originally released in 1972 (Yes I have the vinyl version). The other is Rare Earth’s Get Ready, originally released in 1969.

The Earth Wind, & Fire CD is a Japanese paper sleeve edition release – The paper releases are faithfully reproduced to mimic the original album cover from its vinyl release. It is also a Blu-Spec CD.

The other CD is also a paper sleeve repro, but these come from a USA based company (Culture Factory USA) who are re-releasing re-mastered titles in “Strictly limited to 3000 copies” editions. These are considered audiophile recordings and are re-mastered in High-Definition. They are recorded at 96khz/24-bit. Click here for their re-mastering process.

What makes these Culture Factory CD’s stand out is the CD itself – They are made to actually look like mini vinyl albums, down to the black CD (both sides) and visible track grooves (one side).

I have to admit, this alone sold me on the CD, and I’ll be picking up other titles because of this. And the sound quality is phenomenal. Accurately balanced with no heaviness of bass, overly bright highs, or muddy mids.

Anyway just wondering if there are other audiophile CD/Album collectors here?

    good thread,
i used to mix vinyl and have a decent collection of 12" records.
i started collecting Defected Records stuff in 1999 and now collect their cd's
the decks and mixer etc are now in the attic as we have more kids than space when my youngest boy came along it was time to put it in storage when he got big enough to start taking the vinyl out the sleeves.

when he is older and we have a bit more room i will set it up again and teach my boy to mix vinyl,

at present i still mix and i use my computer to do so using virtual dj ,best mixing software in my opinion.
i have a huge collection of mp3 files and tons of gb's of defected tunes.

as for serious record collecting for real collectors i reckon mr linnemyer will have a collection to make people envious

I had a fair, (nearly all) amount of my 12 inches stolen when I was stationed in California in 1980. Some of that stuff I was never able to replace

As I understand it, mr linnemyer also has a system to die for as well. As for collections, I don't know if I could touch him, but I've got a fair amount of stuff myself.

This is a portion of my collection, not including albums

Trust me, I know people who make my collection look silly, especially in the vinyl department. However, I did foolishly let an girlfriend back in 78 hold on to over a thousand albums of mine - only to never see them again. Long sad story not for conversation here

Yep I'm a huge analog lover but primarily music lover....as I'm watching part 6 of Ken Burns excellent history of Jazz as I type this. My collection of well over 5,000 lp's is a blend of my personal collection and three friends collections which I've yet to integrate into mine as they'll all get cleaned via my Nitty Gritty machine and stuffed into a new sleeve once played and pronounce worthy.
I have three audiophile tables and still own my prized Techinics RS1500 US 10" open real as well as my Nakamichi RX505 cassette machine. Both are flat out amazing recording and playback devices that stand up to almost any CD player available without getting into the stratosphere. Then there is my digital collection of over 2000 cd's and my laserdisc (450+), DVD (900+) and Blu Ray (40+) collection of movies and music.
I'm currently building my own Audiophile interconnects from pure oxygen free copper with pure silver coated wire with pure silver solder and custom locking connectors with shrink wrapped sleeving. These are meant to rival Kimber Kable and the like at a much lower but still expensive price point.
To sum it up.............I'm a total music and audio loon, it's scary but it's me !

Yep, that's an impressive system you have there. I couldn't come close to yours. You've probably got cable/wires worth more than my modest system

I've just got a mix of Carver/Adcom amps, Rotel Pre-amp/DSP processor, as well as a Rotel CD player and Denon turntable. Speakers are Acoustic Research.

Anyway I've got you beat in the CD department as I've over 3000, though you kill me in vinyl as I'm now only at about a grand, if that.

At any rate what think of the CD's I posted. I'm sure you've got a few audiophile ones. I got some JVC/XRCD, MFSL, DCC, Sheffield Labs, and DMP, as well as some Half-Speed mastered vinyl.

As for video, not much there. In fact I've got less than 280 titles between Blu-ray and DVD's

Well, to give you an idea... mine aren't bi-ampable

Anyway if I ever get my photography business in gear, I'll save up some money and get a nice high end system. Problem is, every time I think about spending money there, other things pop up.

I understand completely. I don't really consider my system high end but like my 240Z it's a ball to drive !

i lost a large cd collection that way early 90's.
    wont be repeating that mistake.

anyhow, its not the size of your collection that counts but how you play it.

    often and loud.

Yeah that's a lesson learned for me as well. When you're young, in love, and no place to go, those things happen.

And throw in quality with that. I'm quite fond of the stuff I do have. A lot of out of print stuff, impossible to find stuff.
