In my more than 5 years of SF life, I have never seen that a person motivated by reps and badges could continue here for long.
That is a very astute observation Archie and I agree with Wolfgang re the chatter stuff after seeing some posts last night I thought some were getting close to being undcypherable.

As for the rep debate it did motivate me to participate into having a go because when I first arrived I was really quite clueless (and still am compared to some degree to others) - so in that sense it has made me appreciate those who have guided me and I can now return the favour to others where and when I can thanks to that guidance. But I have to say it really is down to you all that I know well that I can do what I can and especially to one Gary Britton30:)

I started my Forums career on the HowToGeek forum - long before I was here. There everybody was 'member'. Only moderators, the owner and MVPs had a separate mention. And that's how it is still today. I never operated differently on that forum than I operate here.

I think the badges, stars and bips look fancy, but they don't do anything. But we do it to ourselves. Every time someone has an additional badge, bip or star, there is a big congratulation orgy. I think that increases the badge focus. I participate only in very exceptional cases.

The ultimate badge inflation they have on Stack Exchange. For fun I made a handful of postings there and I already have 7 badges,

I think this started a response orgy. This is a forum, everyone can post. I guess this was the exception... the part I quoted in bold is wrong. You went on stack exchange for fun, to post here and complain. You wasted my time with this post. This is only my opinion though, you should have posted this there

    a) I don't complain. The part you bolded is not wrong, it is just a fact
    b) I did not start this thread. It has already 164 pages
    c) If you don't want to waste your time, skip my postings
    d) I always thought you were a nice guy

    A. This is my point, it is a forum.

    B. I changed it to post instead of thread.

    C. I do not want to skip your threads. You always give great help. It is just this post I did not agree with

    D. I am sorry to offend you, that was not my intent.

Well I have read many of the post in this thread and of course I don't agree with everybody. I will get over it.

I think that Dude understands now that a quote is a quote and should not be changed in any fashion or it is not a quote and shouldn't be displayed as a quote.

Now I suggest we play nice with each other.
