yup, I'm getting a lot of posts up that way. :)

I wish more people would actually learn how to give REP. Especially the new members rather annoying helping them and not getting some rep back sometimes.

As it is well known I have never asked for nor intimated that anyone should give me rep - plus it is a fact under the forum rules that rep begging - in whatever form it is put is not allowed - I stand to be corrected of course.

I see asking or suggesting that people rep members if they have helped as some sort of self importance / low esteem issue and I personally will not rep unless I think someone deserves a thank you in that manner.

Does it really matter that rep is given at all if one is here to help out others in strife and if a member is here on the forum just to big name themselves then they are here for the wrong reasons. I know there are far cleverer people on this forum than me and it sticks out like a sore thumb that they are but it doesn't alter my views on rep even if I think they have been brilliant in what they have done - I will not rep them given those views.

So one has to as I said think of why they are taking part in this forum to be a friend or a hero??

There is the basic manners thing of thanking someone who helps you. Rep is a form of thanks as well. I would have said "I wish more people would actually learn how to say thank you", but I understand that some people are not polite in "real life" as well.

Yes Bill I agree with you I am not against anyone getting rep and yes some folks for whatever reason do not give recognition for whatever reason. What I find really bad form is the constant reminding to do so if one feels someone has helped.

It really means to me as I might have alluded to that doing so either means one has a high "need" for recognition or that in some manner having a high reputation makes them that little bit better than anyone else. What is to be gained is what I want to know.

I have also said that I know who are really good at this sort of helping out and I will rep them as and when it is deserved not because I have been reminded to do so. I think that you will agree too that some of the more senior members in here will openly admit that they are not perfect and am going to go as far to say that no one with say a couple of exceptions will ever be that way.
