You can see the Waverunner which towed him out at top. He was about 10 stories up and could have easily fallen that far to the rocks.

I am trying to get back to the North Shore of Oahu in Feb if I can get away from Florida this winter. Those are da kine waves for me. Any of the Hawaiian islands have primo beaches in the best tropics I've found.
North shore waves in winter can come up over the highway and smash the asphalt to gravel, stripping all of the vegetation from the trees leaving them like matchsticks.

A 3 day 11 mile hike along 1000 foot sheer cliffs is only access other than a 4000-ft overlook from above on the drive to the Waimea Canyon, a tropical Grand Canyon.
