    Chromecast Update

    So far so good, mostly,

    In the box.

    1. The Chromecast dongle.
    2. A short extension lead in case fitting is awkward.
    3. A USB power lead, which can be plugged into a convenient USB port if the TV has one or,
    4. A USB mains charger.

    Installation for me was painless.

    1. Plug in the dongle and connect the power.
    2. Select the appropriate input on the TV.
    3. Download to your PC the configuration program and install .
    4. Run the installation wizard which takes you throgh connecting it to your wireless netwok.
    5. It downloads and installs the latest microcode then reboots and is ready for use.

You will also need the Chrome browser and the Google cast extension for it. I already had Chrome and the installation wizard downloaded the extension.

    Chromecast works in two modes.

    1. For Chromecast aware sites you start the playing of videos locally and after you "cast" them Chromecast handles everything including downloading the video stream from the internet. There are currently not many sites. Youtube, Google Play music and videos, Netflix, The BBC iPlayer and VEVO are all I have found so far.

    2. For unsupported video sites the PC does most of the work and just transfers the video stream over the wireless network. This is very CPU intensive. My laptop was regularly running at over 50%. There is some loss of quality here.

You can also play local video and music files via the Chrome browser (there is an extension to help with this) but this also is CPU intensive.

Finally there is an experimental feature to cast the entire PC screen. This also is CPU intensive.

On the whole I am impressed with the device so far.

Kari, my friend, I am deeply saddened to hear about Mutti. Please accept my condolence.
She has gone in a better world and will always bestow her blessings upon you both.

Take care of Angie and yourself.
Thank you Dinesh, my adoptive son :).

Long and difficult day. My mother-in-law is now six feet under, the service was beautiful. My wife has collected her things and moved out.

I'm drunk, quite sad and feeling helpless.

Hey Scott, maybe your sister's PC has some other users, kids, grandkids, etc. She may have installed stuff with bundled crappola. You might give this a try and see what it comes up with.

    Please download AdwCleaner:
    http://general-changelog-team.fr/fr/downloads/finish/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner
    Save to the desktop.

    Close all open programs.
To run the program, right-click AdwCleaner.exe and select: Run as Administrator

Click on Search and confirm the prompt.
After the program finishes, click the Report button. Please post the contents of the C:\AdwCleaner[Rx].txt in your next reply. In the reply window click the "#" icon at the top and paste the log text between the [code ] Paste Here [ /code] tags.

Do NOT perform the delete part before I or someone else can read the log.

    To delete:

    Run AdwCleaner once again.
This time click on:Delete, you will be asked to reboot to finish cleaning.
When done, please post the content of the C:\AdwCleaner[Sx].txt in your reply as outlined above.

This is a template so you could start a thread about it if needed.
    Wrong thread?

Today I woke up from a 13 hour "nap", had breakfast, visited with my brother who's here for my nephews wedding, and started working on my sisters computer. I don't know how to tell her this but she has 47 infections and counting! My sister is the straightest most careful person in the world and this news will be cause for much wailing and gnashing of teeth. *sigh* Its freezing here in Louisville ....... well, maybe not "freezing" but colder than I've seen all winter anyway. I only brought one change of clothes, for the wedding, and otherwise I'm wearing what I was when I left Florida so my shorts and a tee shirt are a little ...... chilly shall we say?
    Please don't use Malwarebytes 2.0
    Find a link to 1.75.0.1300
Is there a particular reason you say not to use version 2 of MalwareBytes ?
    Yes,
    It's unreliable at this time,
Still beta and it needs many updates due in a few weeks,
    Cheers.

    Kari my friend!
Did you ever stop and think your drinking had anything to do with your wife leaving?
I can say this to you as I've been there, done that, and almost lost my wife the same way.
She was kind enough to talk to me face to face and laid down the rules of the land.
Even though we have been married almost 48 years we both hit some ruts in the road but managed to work around them.

Years ago she saved me from drowning myself in booze and 3 weeks ago I saved her from almost choking to death on a piece of steak I made for dinner. Thank God what I did and the prompt arrival of the Paramedics saved her.

    Thanks John.

Didn't think so much about taking pics today. Here's one:

    -2014-04-16_22h37_13.jpg

Our wreath bottom left, freely translated: Be thanked of everything, your daughter Angelika and Kari. The blurred one above it from someone who when noticing me taking a pic told "remember privacy, I do not want you show my name" . The red one was maybe the most valuated, from our church community from Rome, Italy where we lived until back in 2006 we had to move closer to Mutti after her second stroke, saying simply "Von Römischen Freunde" (ENG: From friends in Rome).

Angie moves now back to Rome, after deciding to divorce me.

Yes I have stopped to think about that. No, it has nothing to do with this. Angie has accepted my love for single malt, it has never been a problem between us. Our reasons are something totally different, having with utmost certainty nothing to do with it.

Anyway, I do not drink every day. I can remember one Monday September 2009 and a Thursday in October 1998 I had not a drop of whisky.
