    Serious Sleeping Problem

    Hey there!
I have college on a Tuesday, Wednesday and a Thursday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday result in sleepless nights, i can go for as much as 3-4 days with only around 6-7 hours sleep in total, and most of that is when i come in from college as im shattered, i know people will say the reason im awake all night is because i sleep during the day, it isnt, i go to bed around 12-1ish everynight feeling absolutely shattered but just cannot seem to fall asleep no matter what, i can lie for anywhere between 40minutes to an hour and a half without falling asleep, resulting in my getting back up, my brain is very active when i lie down, countless thoughts flowing through my head, overthinking silly things, as for friday night, i sleep like a baby, can have anywhere from 9hours to 13 hours sleep, although because its the weekend, satarday and sunday dont result in much sleep because that is my weekend if you get me, Does anyone have any tips or ideas that could help me sleep? I'm also not a fan of going to the docs because i'll hopefully be away to the army come march and i dont want them to reject me or postpone my recruitment because im having trouble sleeping, cheers

    Michael.

What have you tried so far? I have always had issues falling asleep quickly, and I have a few tricks that seem to work well for me... double bonus, no drugs or docs involved.

~ Meditation: This does not need to be spiritual in any way... Focus on your breathing and clearing your mind, remove as may distractions from the space as you can (all of them if possible). Often times I use a sound app such as "Lightning bug" to create a calmer atmosphere.

~ Reading: This can be both good and bad, as I have gotten some books (usually text books) that put me right to sleep, but have also found other books that will keep me awake for hours because I don't want to miss the next part of the adventure.

~ Celestial seasonings "Sleepy time tea": I swear by this tea for 1 main reason, believe it or not... it contains catnip! Keep in mind, catnip has different effects on people like it does cats, for me it is very calming and soothing, for my cat (and my good friend), it wires them like a 6 pack of Redbull.

Hopefully those suggestions help a bit. Let me know what you have already tried, and if any of those methods work out for you. :) Good luck, and sleep well!

Pick up a 4lb. density 3" memory foam mattress topper. Not the 3lb density stuff, that's for pillows imo.
I used to have allot of sleep issues, well I still have a few but the memory foam made a huge difference.

    Hi there.

Just take a nice glass of Scotch (preferably Single Malt) in your hand, stretch out on a Couch and turn on almost ANY TV channel PLANET WIDE -- you'll be sleeping like a log in 3 secs flat - careful you DRINK the glass of Scotch before dropping asleep).

(Note the Sofa / Couch must be comfortable -- not per "Bart Simpson" : --Who put the OUCH back into COUCH. !! - I'm quite large -- fit per N. European - not Obese style and still find a lot of modern furniture is about as comfortable as an old fashioned "Iron Maiden" piece of Torture Gear or Dungeon Furniture). - Chesterfields also while looking nice are hideously uncomfortable for relaxing in -- Nowhere to rest your Back.

I'm sometimes embarrassed when visiting and people turn on the TV -- I am sometimes given a kick in the ribs - because I've dropped off to sleep and am Snoring !!!! -- Afraid I don't have too much tolerance for Modern TV -- give me a decent Book with a glass of Scotch / Beer anytime with nice music in the background.

Happy Hols everyone BTW. I've started mine already until Jan 07. !!!

    Cheers
