Tandy 1800 HD laptop. 20 mb hard drive, 8 bit mem. Still works like new.
My first was an IBM(I think??) 133mhz processor, 8mb of RAM, 400mb harddisk and a 14" monitor. I played a lot of great games on this "rig".
Mine was a Toshiba with 512kb ram 2 x 5.25inch drives 14inch 8 color monitor running CPM & Dos1, boot disk created ram drive to run OP system, Lotus 123 on a 360kb floppy requiring 128kb of ram to run and enough room left on the same floppy to save several 123 files.
Dos was modified to format a 360k floppy to 640k allowing Open Access database to run off 1 disk. and the seecond drive used for saving files.
You could stand on the case without denting it.
well here is my first rig. OLD-COMPUTERS.COM : The Museum
its kinda funny my mom bought it for me back in 87 with a seprate 5.25 inch floppy drive. huh the old days.
I'm only 24 but thanks to my brother I was brought up with the rubber key'd ZX Spectrum, what a legend of a machine! And also an Atari 400, gotta love Gorf
My first actual PC was a Packard Bell from Dixons cost me £900... P1 166Mhz, 16Mb RAM, 2.1Gb HDD, 1Mb on-board graphics and a 14" CRT... hardcore!
hmm...it was an awesome thing called Ambra...and it had DOS 4 and well, Windows 3.1 on it...I thought it was some kind of magic back then...finally it had DOS 6 and Windows 3.11 for Workgroups and then came Windows 95 and I had to rebulit it in order to run Windows 95...wich I did but then I get my first hung-up on Microsoft and to put a long story short...I didn't like some features in Windows 95 so I installed OS/2 Warp on the computer (dual-boot) and since that early days Microsoft has not been alone on any of my computers...OS/2 was...well, I loved it back then but it sort of disappear and I started using Linux...back in those days it was complicated to install and use...Mandrake 5 I think was the first...hmm...those were the days...the only thing that really saved old Windows 3.1 was this thing called PC Tools...It changed that boring desktop to something usefull...and when Windows 95 came it was the end of PC Tools Desktop...All one could do was installing Norton Navigator but it was not the same...Workplace Shell in OS/2 was something diffrent...God, I loved that desktop...still have thoose old disks somewere...anyway, regardless op my all time favorite program is - of course - Norton Commander...and I mean the DOS-version, not the flashy Windows version you could install into Win 95...that sucks big time...today Total Commander (former Windows Commander) reminds of old NC but hey, IT'S NOT THE SAME....no way
Zenith Z100
Used this while in the USAF way back when. Mid 1980's I think.
The picture shows one with 2 floppy drives but teh one I used also had a hard drive but can't remember the actual size. May have been a Winchester Drive and maybe 1 meg in size. 360k single sided single density 5 1/4" floppies. LOL
