On Jan. 19, 1937, millionaire Howard Hughes set a transcontinental air record by flying his monoplane from Los Angeles to Newark, N.J., in 7 hours, 28 minutes and 25 seconds.

The air distance between Los Angeles and Newark is:
3925.98 km
2439.49 miles
2119.86 nautical miles

Today:
Constant 500 mph: 4 hours, 53 minutes

In 77 years, 2.5 hours was shaved off the travel time.
Hughes travelled about 325 miles per hour - pretty good for 77 years ago.

We finally have "video phones", but I still want my Flying car!

Space station orbits the earth about 12 times a day. US is developing an orbiting rocket that can hit any point in the world in a few minutes. Pretty cool. If you're American.
