Well I just tried it in compat mode for XP SP3, SP2, Windows 2000
and it's the same bugcheck when you launch it, confirming the settings.
I managed to actually play the game only once, that time it crashed when I exited the game
which is what you experienced.

Hi, I am using new Computer with Intel Desktop Baord Dh61ww and 8 Gb memory. My Windows 7 system was having quite a lot of memory refernce errors. In memtest86+, there were a million errors. But in Windows Memory diagnostics-Extended - no errors were reported.

Just recently got a Powercolor HD 5850 gpu , and have ran a test on the latest Passmark performance test benchmarking software.
It seems about right on the 3d score with around 2200
But the 2d score is very low at around 320
Is this normal?
