Windows 7: what music player do you use?

13 Feb 2009   #21

Windows 7 Professional x64 RTM

I use Winamp religiously.
It starts fast, no matter how much music is in my Media Library.
I collapse it in a small window, about 10 pixels tall in win-shade mode that I stretch it across the top while I do other things (browse, etc.)
I just double-click it to bring it full-size again.

I'm not too picky about its library functions, just being able to organize by album/artist works for me.
As for album art, I've yet to care to add covers to each and every album I own.

With Winamp 5.x, the native skin Bento is the only skin I use.
Hell, it even has a built-in browser when I'm too lazy to open a Firefox window :P

I love Winamp though.
Not as popular as it used to be, it seems.

Windows 7 Ultimate x86

I just like to keep it simple so I use Windows Media Player 11/12.
I never used any other players so I decided to stay on WMP.

Win 7 Pro 32

WinAmp sucks the most, annoying redundant windows for browsing...I'll go with JetAudio

Win 7 Pro x64, VM Win XP, Win7 Pro Sandbox, Kubuntu 11

iTunes, only because I got used to using it on my Power Mac over the past seven years, and because it came with each of my iPods (on gen 3). I do like WMP, and Media Monkey Gold (use a great deal within Win 7. At present using WMP on Win 7.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I use Winamp with the Symplicipod skin. I don't bother with a library, just open my music and pick an album to play.
I have my stuff playing through an old but top quality hi fi in stereo and it sounds great.
I must admit I stick with Winamp because I'm addicted to visualizations and I've tried loads of media players but not found any to match winamp on that score.

cheers, j:)

Linux CENTOS 7 / various Windows OS'es and servers

Hi there
I'm currently Moving stuff from XP ==>W7.

I have all my music stored as FLAC files in "Pseudo CD's".

For playing I use Winamp and Logitech Squeezebox system (streaming).

1) If it's a real CD I rip the tracks into flac using Winamp into a library. Winamp uses Gracenote so can label automatically the album and track names.

2) For individual pieces of music I want to use the same effective system so what I do in this case is organise the tracks into "effective CD chunks" and using NERO create a Virtual Audio CD. Using the mega plugin pack I can create a "Virtual audio CD" from flac files. - I don't have MP3's I keep everything as FLAC - too much trouble to have multiple codecs.

I then rip the virtual CD with Winamp which then gets stored in my library as an album in the same format as "conventional CD's" .

3) Now I can create play lists on artist / album / music type or however the tracks are tagged.

Keeping "Albums" in CD sized chunks makes for much easier handling units of music -- it's easier for oldsters like us to think in terms of CD's and albums than 1000's of un related tracks.

With this method I can also use a logitech squeezebox which will stream the audio all over my house if I don't want to listen on the computer. The squeezebox plays FLAC and also has optical output for high quality when feeding into a decent amp. The squeezebox handset displays the library directory like windows and I can select what to play (inc playlists). -- Excellent system and very cheap -- Logitech Squeezebox.

I'm going to create a better search facility using a MySQL database - but I'm satisfied that my FLAC library arranged into "Albums" of CD size is the most effective one for me to use.

Enc directory image -- from the XP system -- it will take a while to migrate this stuff to W7.

I use the Zune software. It's easy to use, and beautiful when you get into Now Playing.
