    Forum puzzle

I was trying out how a picture as a link would work. I tried with 2 identical strings. The first one would not work and the second worked. Go figure - as far as I can see they are exactly the same. Does anybody see a difference. If you copy/paste them from the script into a Notepad or Wordpad, they are easier to see.

    Script:

And this is what they produce:

Is what is in the code box exactly what you posted outside the box to get the images? The code posted below the code box is certainly quite different with size and font tags out of place.

I had to uncheck Automatically parse links in text in Addition Options below post box

But then both worked the same, and yes, both codes are identical. You posted this original post at the same time? What browser? Any add-ons?

Thanks Bill. You are terrific. Never thought of using another browser because my IE is plain vanilla. But in Chrome it worked parse off. And in my Linux Mint FireFox it worked even with parse on. This here is the Chrome version.

But isn't it strange that 2 identical strings would produce different results.

Btw: what do you think about our new forum. Send me a PM if you don't want to publish it.

It is strange. Your post had several font tags and size tage mixed in. Your BB Code was correct, and regardless, both codes were identical. funny it was plain Jane IE that screwed up :)

I like the new Forum. They have been very welcoming and we must appear to be party crashers! I've gotten encouraging signs that we will all fit right in. I have to be careful not to post too much as they keep replying to threads I'm in, and I've yet to offer any help there. A Guy

Well, I am glad I now know a way out with those picture as a link files - change browser or OS or both.

At the new forum I also had the impression that these are nice people. I posted a bit and tried to help here and there. But you are probably right. We should pace carefully in the beginning.

    Very odd whs,

I copied the lines from your script box and pasted the in this post. I'm still on IE 9 though.

I don't know why you have the extra BBcode tag (FONT), but have seen the forum do some automatic "fixes" on some post or templates. It seems as though there is a strict order for tags - break it and it gets "fixed"

I notice this most if I copy a URL in a post and paste it above or below the orginal placement. I get extra tages for COLOR and UNDERSCORE - sometimes BOLD gets screwy and then the titles aren't retrieved from the URL.

Try this as an exercise: Edit your post# 1 and click on the editor button in the upper right hand corner of the post window to switch to the basic editor and display the BBcode tags. It looks as though there might be a (FONT) tag stuck between the (URL) tag of the first example.

Looking at the link on post# 1, when I mouse over the text and image "link" I see http://[font=calibri for both.

Both links in this post take me to the desired location.

I don't know what to tell you, other than to preview posts and fix any anomolies with the basic editor.

Or.... you could use a different browser

    Bill

Thanks Bill, I made both links work in Chrome and in Firefox on my Linux Mint system. I never suspected the IE to play an act on me because a), both strings are exactly identical and b) I have a completely standard IE10.

But I had some other problems with tutorial (test) postings before. When I wanted to make an info window with

       Information
    ....text....

and the text had 2 paragraphs, then I got 2 info boxes. The same happened with [note].

I guess in the future I will work with another browser. I have a vast choice. 4 browsers on this system and then a bunch on my 6 virtual systems. Maybe next time I take the Boat browser (nice browser) from my virtual Android, LOL.

    You're welcome Wolfgang,

Exactly ..... but I thought it was the php BBcode, not IE causing me similar post issues (split boxes, bullets, etc).

Must be some control character IE inserts for us to help

Forum puzzle-off_topic.png Sooo, you like the Boat browser. I bought an Asus 10" tablet last week mainly to Skype with our daughter and son-in-law in the Philippines (much more portable and versatile than my laptop for that application).

Seperately, I found out that flash really isn't supported on Android after 4.2(??) and I thought I would eb able to watch some TV shows that I missed. The broadcasters and cable companies demand flash, whereas Youtube runs mostly HTML5 which the tablet can process.

I know I can get flash on the machine, but it's brand new and I don't like tweaking things until I've had a machine for at least a month :)

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

    Bill

I had the same problem at first. Here is my thread on the Android forum that shows you how it was resolved.

Also, You might want to sign up on the Android furum for your device. These people know things. Roll down on the page until you find your device - past a lot of phone forum links.

I also have an Asus tablet - the Windows 8.1 Transformer. That is a nice machine. Really fast. Boots in 25 seconds (Event 100 in Event Viewer).
