back to school to learn

Thanks for the help lm 44 and I do have a a great job but not in computers, i use Microsoft for my daily activities But Ive gone back to school for computer IT and I had a few questions on getting started. Mostly because we haven't covered this suff at school and not sure we will. Getting started what will I need. I'm leaning more on trouble shooting software then the hardware. But where does one find , buy all the recovery cds that you may need in your daily repairs along with what else would I need I'm not looking to start a business, I just would like to put a sign at the end of my driveway for part-time work. The reason why I put my age at the beginning is so u would know to talk slow.. Lol

Thanks for or the help
