On the very next night I watched the first episode of Doctor Who, with the original Doctor, William Hartnell. A spooky old man.
The two memories are connected in my mind.
I was in High School wood shop. When I first heard it, I thought it was a joke, but then learned that there was nothing to laugh about.

Our first tv had more snow on screen than outside our windows....This was in Minnesota where there was so much snow during winter season we had to shovel it off baseball field during Easter break just to play.
Those were the good old days...
The wonderful memories you have Dennis of the original rock radio.
A true Neanderthal.

Same style of Montgomery Wards radio only we had a brownish colored one.

"My Little Margie" with Gale Storm
Jay P. Morgan - "The Jay P. Morgan Show." Some of you may remember her better as the panel member on the Chuck Burris show (the "Gong Show") as the woman who bared her beast.

I come from the dark ages. We didn't have TV when I was young. We only had a battery operated radio from Western Auto, that was only on certain times of the day.

I went into the Air Force in Feb 1955 and got to view the newfangled black and white TV.

We didn't get our first TV until 1953, so there was nothing for the first several years of my life, and my parents knew nothing about TV or electronics, except how to turn it on and change the channels. Therefore, I was the in-house TV repair, as far as what could be fixed with a new tube. We only had a cheap pair of rabbit ears, so one station could barely be seen through the snow. More often than not, I had to watch what ever the parents wanted to watch, but even that was good for me, because I was fascinated by TV.

As far as shows that I actually chose or particularly enjoyed, the list is fairly short until the 60s, because there wasn't much sci-fi until then. The pre-60s list of shows that I liked included:

The Adventures of Robin Hood
Death Valley Days
Father Knows Best
Sea Hunt
Sky King
The Ozzie And Harriet Show
Bat Masterson
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Mr. And Mrs. North
The Loretta Young Show
Sargent Preston
Rin Tin Tin
The Lone Ranger

The list would have included Flash Gordon, but it was on that channel with all of the snow, and it would have included The Buccaneers but it wasn't shown in my area. There are some other shows that I enjoyed at the time, but I have come to detest them now so much that I won't admit to them, and others that simply don't come to mind at the moment.
