Any Vapers?

    How about weight gain?

I'm want to quit a 2 pack a day habit completely and I've tried quitting more times than I can count. On my last attempt I cut back to a pack a day and put on 50 lbs in a couple of months. Clothes are more expensive than tobacco and trading one health risk for another is not acceptable for me.

Does vaping help eliminate the urge to gorge on chow or constantly snack?

It is not as bad as when you quit cold turkey. But then your smell and taste senses improve and you will have to control yourself.

    Good luck xips

Not facts, but opinion here but ...

Vaping helps with the Nicotine cravings.
The physical aspect, or the need to do something with your hands/habit of smoking, will take a bit to overcome mostly in that 1st week or 2.

I think thats the part where many start to eat more. Its due to needing something to do with their hands/bordom etc. So they eat.

If you are truly ready to quit, it will help you. Once you get past that 1st week, and get used to everything it gets alot easier. I think the big thing though, is that you still carry on the physical act of smoking. So, though you may get some cravings in that first week, it should help reduce the urge to overdo anything.
I think with a little will power to overcome those urges in that 1st week and you're golden from there on out. Once you realize its all in your head, and not a nicotine craving, it does get a bit easier.

Perhaps others can comment with something more specific as I am not sure myself.

Even though Ive been through it, I'm one of those unlucky(or luck depending how you see it) that can't gain weight no matter what. So I didn't really pay attention if my diet increased or not.

On a side note, I cut the lawn the first time this year. Used to I always had to take breaks, out of breathe etc.
Its been getting better over the last year, but this time was a breeze. Didn't even need a break. The fact it was somewhat cool out helped but still something that was hard on me when I still smoked.

And that article NightHawk linked ...
    Interesting.

I just thought about this yesterdat TBH. My niece (lives with me) has been sick twice this past year. In fact, just got over flu. In the last year I've not even had a cold. Wierd considering I used to get a cold or flu rather often, 2-3 times a year, and was devasating to me.
    maybe theres something to that.

Been there except for the weight gain bit,

I believe the real power is in the device you select to start vaping with,
I personally found success with the inferno but I wouldn't advice it to you because it is a pain in the ass to keep functioning properly,
I also have a itaste mvp with a nautilus mini tank that works much better and the battery on a single full charge last 3 days
But again I don't know I would recommend it either if the battery fails the battery is not replaceable so the device is junked.

Others have found good devices with replaceable batteries which would be best
I believe one was a Ilief but I'll let them let you know how those are doing and the maintenance things about them.

But don't skimp on devices and truth be told you really only need one good one and not 2-3-4-5-6... other ones they have done the experimenting for us as to which ones rule or are best :)

    I agree.

I used to say start with a cheaper mod, then if you think you'll stick with it get a better one.

But most will stick with it, and they almost always upgrade shortly after starting.

So anymore my advice would be:
Start with a decent variable wattage/voltage type device. That way you can tune it just the way you want. This is where the large majority of vapers end up anyway shortly after starting.
And they arent that expensive these days. It will be cheaper in the long run.

Get a good Tank!! This is the heart and soul of it all right here. You can find good ones at a decent price anymore.
Dont skimp here. You can have a $1000 device but it wont make a crappy tank setup good. And if you start with a crappy setup, you setting yourself up for a bad experience and failing at quitting smoking.

Wow, thanks Dude, Wishmaster and Thrasher.

Kicking a 40+ yr habit is going to be a challenge. I've smoked up to 4 packs a day when I could get tax free $2 cartons in the Navy. It helped keep me going. I never had any problems breathing and could swim the length of an Olympic pool underwater until recently. Losing that was my wake up call. I can still eat like I did long ago but don't burn it off as I slow down with the years. Currently at about 10 lbs over my fighting weight.

Right now I'm leaning towards a Kanger Subtank Mini and still researching a Mod. I prefer value and functionality and want something dependable but maintainable.

    Thanks again.

It's is indeed a challenge but I was smoking 2 packs a day as well and did it so you've come to the right place :)

I'm not familiar with the kranger system
I like easy to use devices and the less maintenance the better = easy to use means well more likely than not you'll stick with it,

    I'm now at 6 months without a cig :)
The next 6 months will be to get off of vaping which I pace myself
Even if it takes watching a clock or noticing when a repeat vaping
Stretching that time as I'm able too

The habit of smoking is worse than the effects of smoking because it's psychological which at some point you do have to face that ugly side head on.

Innokin makes some great gear while I still have to give the new 50w Eleaf iStick made by iSmoka a Grade A review. When Vamos and other mods were 3-15w the iTaste models except the higher priced VTR a year ago being the 134 VW and 700mah VV v3.0s now 1000mah with the v4.0s and MVP2.0 were 6-11w or typical range. Durable goods in either case being the plus factor.

By the time I reached the quit date here I could feel a tightness and somewhat sharp pains in the chest I knew was from smoking and not coronary while that is hereditary concerns from my dad's side of the family for sure. He passed at 63 being a former smoker with his mom dead at 67 back in the 60s still being a smoker! Just hit the 60 mark here buddy! After this amount of time strictly vaping however some tightness was felt lately from vaping more menthol as Spring is upon us. That lasted about 3-4days only however. It's smooth going the rest of the time!

The others have summed up things rather nicely about self control being the largest factor as well as what you eat once those taste buds come back to life! Stick with the basics in the produce aisles like fresh fruit and fresh veggies including fresh salads to get more green in you to quel the urge to eat more. Go lightly on the junk foods and other snacks as well as higher calorie until you past the initial stages of being smoke free.

Now here's something else to consider for both new and recenlty new to vaping. If you are new or recently new to vaping before getting set on one type of hardware you may want to consider what you could be missing out on?

Today’s ecig technology has advanced far beyond the early days and basic designs of the first personal vaporizing devices. In the quest for more vapor free cigarettes companies developed variable wattage and variable voltage ecig mods these vaporizers allowed you to customize your vaping experience.

Congrats Thrasher, I need the willpower to succeed as you have. I've been lucky with health most of my life. Doctors advised me to quit and I tried but never found a good reason to stop completely. Subtle warnings of my mortality have my attention now and should provide me with the motivation to finally stop.

There will still be a few obstacles to overcome with vaping, but if you ever tried to quit before without success I think you'll find this road a lot easier one to stick with and succeed than other methods.
I think the desire to quit is the key factor though that will get you through will minimal issues.

Vaping really does work though, and as long as you have the desire to stick with it and away from the tobacco you'll make it just fine!!
    Good Luck!
