I have a Brother HL-2270DW. I wouldn't say it is particularly noisy but it isn't totally quiet either when printing. It was relatively low cost and performs well. A good thing is the drum and toner cartridge are separate units so you can have multiple toner replacements before needing to replace the drum. I use 3rd party compatible toner cartridges that are much cheaper than the genuine Brother cartridges.
EDIT: They appear to be having QC issues with this product now and I would hold off for the time being. Bummer. We also have many of these in the office and just for all your information if your printer takes the TN660 toner then you can just get these and they last a long time for no cash and don't cause sensor problems or anything like that. https://www.amazon.com/LINKYO-Compat...XQ7YYANWQT17DF

Jack, I went to a laser a year or so ago. I rarely print anything, if I need something for myself I just print to PDF and send to my phone or tablet for portability.

My Dell printer is left on and goes into deep sleep mode until needed, when I hit print the printer goes through a start routine that means there is a slight delay but the toner is shaken and ready to go. You can also manually refresh the toner cartridge by taking it out and giving it a gentle shake, (keeping it level), every week or so but most modern units don't need it.

My dell is full colour, ethernet / WiFi and cost me about $120 with full toner set around $30 for compatibles

Years ago hubby had a Brother Laser printer, they were quite expensive so he just had the Black one, his printing was mainly black anyway, and I had the Epson Inkjet.

Of course that meant we had to have a separate scanner, in fact I still have it. We usually had Epson printers but had to have one each because they weren't Wi-Fi but now I've got an Epson Expression Home XP-312 so only need the one printer and we can all print to it over Wi-Fi. :)

I have a Brother HL-2240 and it prints fine - when it works. Normally when you decide to print it does nothing, but if you wait three weeks, or cycle the power it will do your print job.

I can't count the number of times that I've printed to it, then used my HP Inkjet instead, then come back to find paper on the printer and said "Hey! I printed this three weeks ago!"

    Stupid printer.

I haven't a problem with my HL-2270DW (yet). Except I did replace the toner with a "compatible" generic cartridge and noticed in duplex mode the rear page started to have a grayish band up the top of the page. I've seen some people say that this problem may be attributed to using a generic vs a Brother toner cartridge - who knows. You do need to look at the manual and go through the cleaning process from time to time and give the cartridge a small vertical movement to redistribute the toner powder.

I've had the need to print many pages with this printer ~1000+. Inkjet would be far more expensive and not as good as a Laser printer IMO. I have an Epson Inkjet that I use when I need colour but the cartridges are very expensive.

    Hi,
Sort of interesting you say now post count has no advantage but you said on I believe page 4-5 on tenforums that some members had a better % chance because of post count
So which is it does post count count or not :)

Which there was no mention of post count being of any consideration at all just poll and single post.
